|8 Speed Chainrings||Bob M|

|I am in the process of repairing my 105 drivetrain (8 speed) and have come across a problem. I am not having any luck locating 8 speed shimano chainrings and have read that the 9 speed rings are incompatible with 8 speed chain and front derraileur. My preference is to change the rings, cassette and chain and be on my way. However, when I look into what it will take to use 9 speed rings it almosts makes more sense to upgrade the entire component group. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to locate these rings or experience using 9 speed rings on an 8 speed drive train?

|Try stronglight or sugino chainrings from excel sports, they should work fine.
Only the inner 9 speed ring is different. It's made to be positioned slightly closer to the big ring.
If you have enough miles to have worn out a cassette and the rings, I would think that the derailleurs would also be well worn . If this is the case, it might make more sense to take the plunge to 9 speed.
