Trouble with an Ultegra BB??JBergland

Over the last couple days I have developed a 'creak' (opposed to a 'tick') that I believe is coming from my BB area. I have checked the arms, chain ring bolts, handle bars, head-set, and pedals. I plan to take out the BB tonight. Just spinning the crank, the BB feels fine (no movement or grinding, just smooth). Can an Ultegra BB need replacing with only 2k on it? That seems like a short life to me.

I'm still not 100% sure it's the BB. Noises can be tough to track down sometimes. It only happens when I stand and seems to be coming from the left (non-drive) side.

Just checked the 'old' board...JBergland

A couple other places to check or things to try. Remove and replace rear wheel; quick release can creak against frame. Remove pedals, grease threads and replace. Ride with running shoes to make sure it's not the cleats or shoes. If you have a quil stem remove and grease while your at it... Might be the bottom bracket. If it is it's usually the threads against the frame. I suggest a heavy thick (old wheelbearing type)grease. Let me know, I'm sure I can thing of a few more if need be.

I spent a good part of the night on this one. Took out the BB. It was just fine... many more miles left in this one. Checked the pedals, head-set, and the stem/handle bars(all for the 2nd/3rd time). Nothing. Checked the seat post... nope. Checked the saddle rails... they were fine. Same creaking sound the whole time.

I was getting kinda frustrated when it happened. While leaning the bike up against the stand I heard the 'creak'. This was the first time I had heard anything while I was off the bike. Try as I might I couldn't get the sound to happen again... but it was coming more from the head-set/fork area than the BB. It ened up being the front quick release. It wasn't loose, but loose enough to creak just a little.

This is a great example of sounds not necessarily coming from where you think!!
